Building Instructions

Three Ways to Build

It is important to try to keep all students challenged while still providing help when necessary.  The building instructions for the Express-Bot project provide three ways to build, to challenge users with different experience levels individually:

  • Experienced Builders can challenge themselves to build the base robot and attachments using only the Completed Model pages, by "reverse engineering" the designs.

  • Users Familiar with the Parts will usually be able to be build the base robot and attachments by using the Building Hints in addition to the Completed Model pages.

  • Users new to the NXT kit and those needing additional help can use the Step-by-Step Instructions to build the Driving Base.

Express-Bot Programming

The Express-Bot project is designed for educators, coaches, and other users of the LEGO MINDSTORMS Education NXT Base Set (9797) to use as a mechanical starting point for a variety of their own tasks, experiments, and programming lessons.

For programming examples, including uses of the different sensor types, ranging from beginner to advanced techniques, you could see the Multi-Bot project for examples.  Note that the Multi-Bot mechanical design is designed for the NXT 2.0 retail (8547) set, but the programs are compatible with the LEGO Education NXT-G 2.0 or later software, and they can provide a good starting point for educators to adapt to various robots that use the Express-Bot design.
